About TRYC
The Bridge, Board and membership of Toms River Yacht Club are proud to be hosting the Lightning North Americans August 7-13 ,2010. Congratulations to all of you who qualified for the event, we have a great one planned.
The lightning class has a long history here on the Barnegat Bay and in the Central Atlantic District. Looking back through the years many names and families have added to the class and local sailing lore.
1950s-John Orelup, Foster Tallman, John Tiegland, Bob Adams, Bill Fortenbaugh, Harry Sindle
1960s-Topper Slack, Ed Lampman, Ralph Messersmith, Corby Day, Bob Armstrong, Jim Carson, Bill Clausen, Jack Elfman, Marie and Fred Slovak, the Lippencotts, Howard Mullin
1970s-Billy Cramer, Bill Newmann, the Ruiters, Bob Seidleman, Jay and Jody Lutz
Presently ,the CAD and the class has strong roots at Metedeconk YC,Lavallette YC and the LBI group of Barnegat Light,Surf City and Spray Beach.
TRYC has a rich history in regatta management. It has won the BBYRA Race Management Trophy more than any other yacht club on the bay.
Recent events include the Lightning Atlantic Coasts, Thistle Atlantic Coasts, Ensign Nationals,Flying Scot Nationals. Flying Scot Atlantic Coasts, Flying Scot Wife –Husband Regatta, Comet Internationals,Snipe Nationals,J-24 Parkway Series and many more.
